Assessments
Dyslexia Assessment (Age 7+)
The assessment involves a series of tests that assess reading, spelling and handwriting, phonological memory, phonological awareness, speed of processing and visual and verbal ability.
The results, alongside behaviours noted during the tests, and relevant background information are used to create a holistic overview of the individual in order to inform a diagnosis. Where appropriate, the report will include recommendations such as reasonable adjustments, teaching intervention and access arrangements for exams (extra time, breaks, a scribe etc).
During the testing process, evidence of other specific learning difficulties (SpLD), such as dyspraxia may become apparent. In this instance, the findings will be discussed in the report and a recommendation for further specialist assessment may be made.
In some instances the findings may not support a diagnosis of dyslexia. In such cases a full, in-depth report will still be produced. This ensures that any areas of difficulty are acknowledged in order to put appropriate support in place (recommendations of relevant support will be made where appropriate).
The assessment usually takes approximately 2.5 to 4 hours to complete, with short breaks. However, sometimes it may be necessary to complete the assessment in more than one session.
You will receive a full, in-depth report within one month of the assessment.
Once a booking has been made you will receive a confirmation email along with a request for background information. Please complete the questionnaire(s) as thoroughly as possible as the information will be used in the final report (where relevant).
Please ensure that an eye test has been undertaken within 12 months of booking the assessment as it is essential to rule out any other reasons for visual disturbances that may be affecting reading/writing prior to the assessment.
All diagnostic tests adhere to current SASC guidelines. Visit http://www.sasc.org.uk/for further details.
